Overview: The scissor dance is a 16th-century magical-religious dance and ritual in which the dancers act as mediators between humans and deities. It originated in the Ayacucho, Apurimac, and Huancavelica regions and began to gain popularity in Lima in the 1980s, during the waves of migration from rural areas to the city.
